A custom timber frame will be featured in the upcoming Durango Parade of Homes in Durango, Colorado during the weekend of September 9. Black Canyon Builders, an Independent Builder/Dealer of Woodhouse, is presenting this home in the Parade, which recognizes the finest homes and remodels in La Plata County, Colorado.
Black Canyon Builders recently remodeled what is known as the "Day House" which is somewhat of a historical landmark in La Plata County. Jared Ogden, owner of Black Canyon Builders, had been a Durango resident for 20 years, and had always "recognized the prominence" of the Day house. When Jared read that the home, built in 1886, had been neglected and would be on the verge of demolition, he felt a responsibility as a community member to help.
Since the remodel of the main house, they have begun construction on the accompanying barn, which will serve as a guest house located nearby. To rebuild this barn, Southern Yellow Pine timbers were used from Woodhouse, The Timber Frame Company, along with frame and panel drawings.
The porch of the timber framed guest home uses reclaimed timbers from the old barn as a tribute to its past.
In its final stages of construction, the newly remodeled barn will be available to tour during the Durango Parade of Homes, September 9-11. Tickets for the Parade can be purchased at www.durangopoh.com. The weekend event will not only include daily tours of the homes on display, but also a cupcake war, art displays, and Homes Under the Stars where you can see the featured homes at night and enjoy their beautiful lighting.
